ACTIVITY BASED LEARNING

 OBJECTIVES:

  1. Importance of activities in strengthening primary education.
  2. Discern hallmark of good learning activities.
  3. To develop child- centred activities.

CONTENT :

  1. Activity is a part of well-planned series of experiences for the child for a particular learning area or areas (not just an isolated learning experience) identified by the teacher .
  1. Activity involves participation (leads to active thinking on part  of) of every child.
  2. Activity may or may not involve physical movement, but definitely involves use of mental exercises, e.g., (puzzles, model.
  3. The child to learn in a joyful and interesting manner.

 

PLANNING:

 

The planning is to be done by keeping in mind the following-

 

1. Specific objectives of curriculum.

2. Developmental stage, background and entry level learning of the children.

3. Understand the total activity.

4. Imagine using it in the classroom.

5. Resources available: financial and material.

6. Teaching – learning time available.

7. Think of ways to avoid potential problems and modify the activity accordingly.

8. Create mental image of the revised version.

9. Plan transition from one activity to another. This minimises waste of time, confusion and behaviour problems.
